Specifications

 # 1A     -

  • 12" & up top end, 16' long - very high quality logs.
  • Maximum knot sizes:  1" red or black (black knots must be sound)
  • Good growth spacing (18" & up) between the knot whorls
  • Logs must be straight with no rot, sweep, shake, weevil or machine damage.

  # 1       

  • 10" & up top end, 14'& 16' long, or 12" + top end, 12' - high quality logs, heavy to 14 & 16'.
  • Excessive footage (over 20%) of 12' logs will be downgraded to # 2.
  • Maximum knot sizes: 3" red, 2" black (black knots must be sound)
  • Logs must be straight with no rot, sweep, shake, weevil or machine damage.

 

 # 2       

  • 8" & up top end, 12', 14' & 16' long  -  good to average quality logs.   
  • Maximum knot size: 4"
  • Small amounts of red rot, sweep & weevil damage allowed.

 

 # 3       

  • Low quality due to oversized knots, sweep, weevil damage, red rot or other defects.
  • Maximum knot size 6"    
  • Any 8' & 10' logs - must meet # 2 knot & defect specs.)

 

 Cull     

  • Logs not meeting the minimum specifications and the general rules for all logs.
  • Any log under 8" top end, or under 8' 6" long.
  • Logs with excessive defects or with detectable hardware.
  • Logs too large, crooked or muddy to process.
  • Any logs which have stain or are not fresh cut.   
  • Cull logs must be picked up within 1 week.

             

    *  Loads must not exceed 5% (in b.f.) of # 3.  We would prefer to buy none. 

General Rules For All Logs

 

  • All logs must be cut at least 6" over in length. Odd length logs are very time consuming to scale.
  • Maximum length allowed:  16' 11"!!  17' is too long!
  • Maximum diameter allowed:  36" butt.  Flair on large logs must be trimmed off.
  • All logs must be fresh cut.
  • Scale will be deducted for rot, sweep, weevil damage and other defects.
  • Scale will be deducted for damage to the log from processors or handling (machine damage).
  • We will refuse logs with excessive processor damage.
  • Cull logs not picked up after 1 week, become the property of the mill.     
  • Scale is international rule.
  • Prices and specifications may change without notice.    
  • Loads must contain a high percentage (over 50%) of # 1 & 1A grade logs. 
  • Limbs must be trimmed flush to the log.
  • Yard hours: 6:00 - 5:00 Monday - Friday.  Our log loader is not available Friday afternoons.
  • The log week ends Wednesday at noon.  Checks are available Friday a.m.& are mailed Friday at 4 p.m.
  • Unload all logs with the butt ends on the same side.
